Who builds it, and the one design decision everything else follows from.
Who we are
EML Viewer is made by CAPITA S.R.L., a software company registered in Rome, Italy. We build small tools that open file formats people receive and cannot read: digitally signed documents, electronic invoices, and saved emails.
The decision everything follows from
The parsing runs in your browser. We have no server that receives your messages, so there is nothing for us to store, leak or be asked to hand over. It is also why there is no account: there is nothing to attach one to.
That choice costs us features — we cannot offer server-side batch processing, for instance — and we think it is the right trade for files that routinely contain contracts and other people's personal data.
The apps
The same engine runs in our iOS and Android apps, which work entirely offline. Everything is paid for by the people who use it: no advertising, no analytics sold on, no data business.
